Spring Plant Sale
Spring is a perfect time to plant or renew your garden.  It's not too hot, it's not too cold, it's just right!!!  So to help with these tasks The Backyard Gardeners have a Spring Plant Sale that includes information, literature along with the sale of locally grown plants and unique garden decor.  Members are available to answer questions and provide suggestions of appropriate plant material for your specific needs.
Other Programs and Activities in the Community

Bonsai Classes
Bonsai Classes are sponsored by The Backyard Gardeners periodically at the Chesapeake Campus of Tidewater Community College.  Taught by Mr. Ronnie Baum, past president of the Virginia Bonsai Society, these classes cover beginning through advanced levels for the bonsai enthusiasts.  There is a fee for these classes that covers all the materials needed to create your own bonsai.  Participants each leave the class with their own bonsai, information regarding its care and a short history of the art form.

Paint Your Heart Out
Paint Your Heart Out is an annual Rotary Project which assists selected homeowners by performing maintenance that is beyond their capabilities on their home and yards.  The Backyard Gardeners have assisted by providing the gardening and landscaping manpower for the paint team.  By working closely with the paint team and homeowner, we design and install a landscape that is complementary to the home and easy to maintain.

Virginia Zoological Park
If you haven't been to the zoo lately, you're in for a surprise.  Not only have the animals and their habitats been upgraded to state-of-the-art facilities, but an equal amount of attention has been given to the grounds themselves.  There are many theme gardens, voluptuous plantings and native flora that enhance the visitors' experience.  The members of The Backyard Gardeners have volunteered at the zoo to assist their horitcultural staff with the installation of plants and the regular maintenance of their many gardens.
